UK CAA/JAA to FAA conversion

The FAA will issue a license on the basis of a foreign license as long as that license is valid, i.e. current and with a medical. The procedure is laid out at http://registry.faa.gov/airmen.asp

You need to:

1) Download the UK CAA form:

Click Here for the UK Licence Verification Authorisation  (SRG1160)

Click Here for the UK Payment Method  (SRG1187)

Print out the forms and fill them in, send them with your choice

of  payment to the UK CAA. They will take a credit card.

2) Download the FAA Verification Form:

Click Here for the FAA Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License,

Rating or Medical Certificate. (AC 8060-70)

Print out the form and fill it in, send it to the FAA with copies of your

    license and medical.

3) The FAA will send you a letter of verification and a copy to the FSDO

you have specified. In our case it is at Harrisburg, PA.

4) You attend the FSDO who will issue you with an FAA license after

seeing your CAA license, medical and a photo ID.

The process takes about 3 - 4 weeks. The advantage with this procedure is that you can take a flight test for an FAA standalone license without taking any written exams.

An FAA standalone license requires a written exam, a flight check ride and an oral examination.
